Driver arrested after crashing into COS patrol car

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A Colorado Springs officer had to be taken to the hospital on Friday night after a driver crashed into his parked patrol car. 

Fortunately, the officer was released from the hospital with minor injuries. 

The officer was inside his patrol car, which was parked in the 5000 block of N. Powers Boulevard in the northbound lane, at around 10 p.m. The emergency lights were on when Spencer Purvines crashed into the rear end of the police vehicle. 

Significant damage was caused to the patrol car, according to CSPD.

Purvines and his passenger were also taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. Purvines was arrested for DUI and other related traffic offenses.

This is an ongoing investigation.
