COLORADO SPRINGS - As President Trump continues to make decisions about who will fill his cabinet, people all around the nation are voicing their opinions.
A group of about a hundred people met outside U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner's Colorado Springs office on Tuesday morning.
The demonstration was focused on Betsy DeVos. She is President Trump's selection for Secretary of Education.
Some of the protestors say they are concerned about the future of public schools and special education.
“My biggest concern is I have a hearing impaired daughter who was in the public school system years ago. They did a wonderful job and we supported it with our taxpayer money. They were very accountable. I'm afraid that's going away,” said Tom Cunningham, who participated in the protest.
While the main focus of Tuesday’s protest was DeVos, several demonstrators also chanted about other issues like immigration.
Senator Gardner's staff released the following statement in regards to the demonstration:
“Nothing is more important to Senator Gardner than providing the best constituent service possible to all Coloradans. Since January 1st, our office has received a large volume of emails and phone calls — we have responded to more than 50,000 letters and we have received tens of thousands of phone calls. Since taking office in the US Senate, our staff has also completed nearly 3,000 cases for constituents seeking assistance navigating federal agencies, including the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Social Security Administration.” - Alex Siciliano
