COLORADO SPRINGS - This week is National Women in Construction Week, and it is designed to increase the visibility of women working in the construction industry.
It also aims to raise awareness of the opportunities available for women and to emphasize the growing role of women in the industry.
Darlene Garcia with Colorado Springs Utilities says she's had a very fulfilling career in construction.
"There is nothing like the feeling of seeing a project that you've helped construct and to get the satisfaction from knowing that we're improving the system. We're solving a problem, or we're helping the customer save money," said Garcia.
Garcia says her message to girls thinking about going into construction or engineering is to not be afraid to get your hands dirty, it's fun.
