COLORADO SPRINGS - An early morning robbery off N. Chelton Road claimed one life and sent another to the hospital.

"Upon officers arrival, they located two adult males with obvious traumatic injuries," said Sgt.John Garza with the Colorado Springs police department.

The owner of the Full Throttle Auto Service was pronounced dead at the scene on Thursday morning.

Family and friends confirmed with KRDO NewsChannel 13 that the man who died is George Maldonado, Sr.

"A very huge loss for a lot of people. Even people that barely knew him thought they were family because that's how he treated everybody when it came to George," friend Aaron Von Rosenberg said.

Von Rosenberg has known Maldonado for four years. The two met as Von Rosenberg's daughter started getting into car racing.

"He was just a really good guy. It's really hard to have someone leave like that, especially when they care,"  Skyler Von Rosenberg said.

Another man was transported to the hospital with traumatic injuries. He is in critical but stable condition, police say. His identity hasn't been released.

CSPD believes there may be two suspects. Officers are currently questioning witnesses and working to find out the motive behind the robbery.

"There was some information over the radio they may have been posing with utility workers but we're trying to verifying that," Garza said.

The robbery involving a gun happened at around 7:47 a.m. Thursday morning.

A GoFundMe has been set up for the family to help with funeral expenses.
