Springs mother who spent 30 years searching for answers dies not knowing what happened to her son

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A lifetime of searching ended with no closure for the mother of a Colorado Springs boy who vanished more than 30 years ago. 

Bernice Abeyta died Sunday night. She had been battling cancer.

Abeyta's son, Christopher, was just seven months old when he disappeared from his crib on the night of July 15, 1986.

The case remains open and is being handled by the Colorado Springs Police Department's homicide and missing persons cold case unit. 

Bernice Abeyta was 73.
