COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - U.S. Air Force Academy Cadets remembering the nation's loss with a special ceremony Monday.

Three wreaths were placed at the 9/11 memorial on the Academy's Terrazo during a retreat ceremony.

The wreaths represent the three locations hit by the attacks that day.

The youngest cadets would have been two-years-old when 9/11 occurred, so many don't remember the day. However the cadets said even though they don't remember the events first hand, it's important to take time to reflect.

"Even though we were so young when it happened, it's not an excuse for us to forget about it. It's not an excuse to say that we shouldn't remember it. We should always remember lives that were lost during tragic events and remember those lives that were given during those tragic events," Cadet 2nd Class Brandon P. Webster said.

Following the ceremony a run began on the Air Force Academy that will continue through Tuesday. It's to honor the endurance the first responders had to make it through that tragic day September 11, 2001.
