5-time convicted felon arrested after pointing gun at undercover officers in Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. - A man was arrested in Pueblo on Thursday morning after he pointed a gun at undercover officers and led them on a short pursuit.

At around 2:50 a.m., a couple of plain-clothed officers in an unmarked vehicle were in the 1000 block of E. Abriendo Avenue when they spotted a suspicious, silver, Chevrolet Caprice. The Caprice drove by them, made the block and then pulled up beside their vehicle.

The man driving, who was later identified as George Garnhart, pointed a handgun at them and asked if they were police.

The officers drew their weapons, causing Garnhart to speed off.

He was spotted a short time later by other officers. They tried to pull Garnhart over, but he refused to stop. He ended up jumping out of the Caprice at the intersection of W. Evans Avenue and Evans Place and ran away on foot.

Garnhart was later found hiding on the roof of a home in the 600 block of Evans Place.

During his arrest, officers did find a loaded 9mm handgun on the side of the home.

After further investigation, officers discovered that Garnhart was a five-time convicted felon.

He was booked into the Pueblo County Detention Center on several charges, including possession of a weapon by a previous offender and menacing with a deadly weapon.
