Attempted robbery fails at Diamond Shamrock

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A man attempted to rob a Colorado Springs Diamond Shamrock by breaking the unlocked glass door and attempting to get money out of the cash register, according to police.

Officials said the attempted robbery happened at 3:00 a.m. at the store on the 5600 block of Palmer Park Boulevard.

The clerk was outside taking out the trash when a masked man approached him with what appeared to be a a shiny weapon, police said.

The clerk told police the man demanded he go into the store and open the cash register, but the clerk instead ran to a store across the street and called for help.

Police said the suspected robber went into the store on his own but could not open the register and ended up running off with no cash.

Officials said a K9 unit responded and searched the area, but they were not able to find anyone.

The man was described as 5 feet nine inches tall, thin, wearing a black beanie with a mask pulled down, black jacket and black pants.
