Colorado Springs Police say stolen property is from Black Forest fire victim

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo - Colorado Springs Police say stolen property recovered Monday night belongs to at least one victim of the Black Forest fire.

Police Chief Pete Carey confirmed to KRDO that at least one item recovered at American Storage on Vincent Drive belongs to a Black Forest fire evacuee.

The investigation began when police were called by the storage facility manager who noticed something suspicious.

Several items that police say were stolen were recovered.

Chief Carey says a tag on a suitcase links the luggage to a person who was evacuated during the fire. It is not yet known if the item was taken from an evacuated home or from another location.
