2 armed deputies to fly man accused of killing local auto shop owner back to COS

COLORADO SPRINGS - One of the suspects in the murder of a local auto shop owner is soon to be extradited back to Colorado Springs.

Derrick Davis was arrested in Minnesota on July 17, just four days after George Maldonado was killed. Davis was found at a Super 8 Hotel in Bloomington.

His extradition hearing was on July 21. According to a spokesperson with the Hennepin County Attorney's Office, Davis waived extradition, which means he will be brought back to Colorado Springs without any further court proceedings in Minnesota.

The date of Davis' extradition has not been revealed.

It is now up to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office to bring him to Colorado Springs. It will send two armed deputies to fly him back to where the crime was committed.

A second suspect is still wanted in connection to this case. Eric William Grant, 38, is wanted on a first-degree murder charge like Davis.

Grant is described as standing 6’2” tall and weighing 185 pounds with a muscular build, black hair, and brown eyes.

Grant should be considered armed and dangerous.

If you see Grant or have information on where he is, contact CSPD at (719) 444-7000.

The FBI is also offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to his capture.
