2 malnourished children locked in bedroom, mom behind bars

FOUNTAIN, Colo. - A 25-year-old mother is behind bars after Fountain police found her two malnourished children locked in a bedroom.

Kanesha Godin is being held on two counts of felony child abuse. She turned herself into the Fountain Police Department on March 14 after a warrant was issued for her arrest.

On March 8, officers responded to a home in the 100 block of Wellington Street in Fountain. Officers found two small children locked in a bedroom.

After further investigation, they determined their mother, Godin, left them there while she was away on a trip.

According to Fountain police, Godin arranged for a friend to check on the children once a day and to feed them and change their diapers. Godin told that friend that her neighbor would also be checking on them while she was out of town.

The friend quickly realized that there was no neighbor caring for the children and contacted police.

This is an ongoing investigation.

If you have any information, you can call the Fountain Police Department at 719-382-8555.
