Arrest made after late night robbery at Colorado Springs hotel

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A Colorado Springs man was arrested after a robbery late Tuesday night at a hotel in the 2400 block of E. Pikes Peak Avenue.

Officers arrived around 11:25 p.m., and reported seeing a sliding glass door that had been forced open on one side of the building.

While setting up to go inside, a man later identified as Edgardo Nunez-Palencia, 25, jumped from the second floor of the building, police said.

Nunez-Palencia attempted to run across the road, but was stopped by K-9 Officer Donovan and his partner Max. Police said Nunez-Palencia hit Max several times before he was stopped and taken into custody.

Max was not injured.

Nunez-Palencia was charged with second-degree burglary and cruelty to a certified police dog.
