Colorado Springs sees first homicide...

COLORADO SPRINGS - A 39-year-old has died and a Colorado Springs man is in custody after an assault that took place on January 3. 

Matthew Allan Stroker, 34, was first arrested on January 8 for assaulting 39-year-old Edward Eugene Lyles who at the time had just been hospitalized after police found him unresponsive with a head trauma on January 4 in the 4300 block of Northpark Drive.  

Stroker was allegedly involved in the assault of Lyles on January 3. 

On January 10, Lyles died from his injuries, causing the 2nd-degree assault charge to increase to 2nd-degree murder. 

Lyles' death was the first homicide for Colorado Springs in 2017.
