MONUMENT, Colo. - Right now, there are more questions than answers in the death of Tim Watkins, the cyclist who disappeared last week and was later found shot to death on a biking trail near Monument.
The case started with a massive search for Tim Watkins after he didn't come back from a bike ride last Thursday.
On Sunday, Watkin’s body was found in the Mt. Herman areas and during the investigation it was determined that Watkins was fatally shot.
However, at this point, investigators do not know why he was shot, or by whom.
Tim Watkins was well-known and well-liked in the community, and hundreds came out to a vigil to remember him over the weekend.
The incident also left the community on edge.
Nathan Burdick is a local dirt bike rider, who says he says he's changing up his plans for riding in the area in the wake of the incident.
“I'm not going to take any of the back roads or anything. I'm going to stay on the main roads today and just kind of stay safe for the next couple weeks until they find someone. Hopefully they find [the suspects],”
As for anyone heading out to the trails, the sheriff's office is recommending that people be extra cautious.
Investigators say there's no suspect information for the case at this time.
If you have any information in the case, you’re asked to call the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office at 719-390-5555.
