Officer's nose broken during attack according to CSPD

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Colorado Springs Police Department says one of its officers was repeatedly punched in the face while responding to a call Monday night.

The officer suffered a broken nose. She was responding to a report of a suspicious situation at the Specialty Sports store in the 4200 block of E. Fountain Boulevard when the incident happened. Initial reports were that a man at the store was making threats. 

The police department says officers were trying to pat down Rickie Darrington, 42, when he attacked. 

Another officer was able to subdue Darrington with a stun gun.

The injured officer was taken to the hospital and treated for a broken nose and hand injuries before being released.

Darrington faces two counts of 2nd-degree assault on a peace officer.
