Driver who hit, killed woman in Walmart parking lot sentenced

Champigny in court on December 19

A woman who hit and killed a pedestrian outside of a southern Colorado Walmart has been sentenced to 24 years in prison followed by five years on parole.

Earlier this year, Rebecca Champigny was convicted in the hit-and-run death of Jenny Carrillo.

Champigny ran over Carrillo in the parking lot of the Walmart in the 6300 block of Highway 85/87 in Fountain on March 16, 2015.

After hitting Carrillo, police said Champigny drove away and crashed into a parked car in the 200 block of Plaza Boulevard a short time later.
