EPSO: Scammers using sheriff's office number to try to rip you off

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is warning the community about a scam in which one of its phone numbers is being used by someone who wants to steal your money.

In these cases, the scammer calls from 719-520-7100, which is a sheriff’s office number, and asks for money to clear up a warrant. The caller is sometimes aggressive and threatening if you do not agree to give them money.

The sheriff's office says that if someone calls you claiming to be an employee with the sheriff's office and asks for money for any reason, you should hang up and contact law enforcement. It says it never asks for money over the phone for any reason.
