Police say man shot by father after threatening to kill him

FOUNTAIN, Colo. - Police say a man who was shot in Fountain Wednesday night had recently been released from prison.

The shooting happened at around 6 p.m. in the 800 block of Candlestar Loop, which is in a neighborhood near the intersection of Jimmy Camp Road and Link Road.

Police say Michael Jones, 34, was behaving aggressively, threatening to kill his father and refusing to leave the property. They say that when Jones advanced on his father, his dad shot him in the leg.

After he was shot, Jones got into his car and drove away. Police spotted his Camaro at the intersection of Santa Fe Avenue and Ilinois Avenue and pulled him over. Paramedics treated his leg injury at the scene.

Fountain Police tell KRDO NewsChannel 13 that Jones was released from prison in October following a similar incident in 2011 in which he threatened to kill his parents and then fired shots into their house.

Jones is facing charges of 2nd degree burglary and menacing.
