Suspected shoplifter taken down with stun gun after running from Springs police

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Colorado Springs Police Department says officers used a stun gun to take down a shoplifting suspect after he tried to run from them.

The incident happened at around 10:50 p.m. Monday at the intersection of N. Academy Boulevard and N. Carefree Circle.

Officers were initially called to a report of a man standing in traffic on Academy.

Police say the man, identified as Tyler Pederson, had just shoplifted at a nearby business. They say he lied about his name and then took off running. Officers chased Pederson on foot for a short time before firing a stun gun.

Pederson was arrested. No officers were hurt.
