Officer injured while arresting accused shoplifter

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A Colorado Springs police officer was hurt when he confronted an accused shoplifter Sunday evening at the Walmart store in the 3200 block of East Platte Avenue.

Officer Jason Blanscet was working an extra-duty shift when he confronted Albert Romero, police said.

Romero attempted to run from the store, Blanscet tackled him, police said.

Romero received minor injuries to his head during the scuffle, according to investigators.

Romero was arrested.

Blanscet received injuries to his hand and knee, but finished his shift at Walmart.
