Canon City PD Commander resigns after charged with official misconduct

CANON CITY, Colo. - A Canon City Police Commander has resigned after being charged with three counts of official misconduct.

The Canon City Daily Record spoke with Police Chief Daric Harvey and was told that William Ray resigned on September 27.

The incident that launched an investigation was committed on August 26. Ray was placed on unpaid administrative leave on September 6 after the Department passed the investigation on to the Colorado Bureau of Investigations.

Harvey told the Daily Record that since Ray resigned, the Police Department has ended its internal investigation.

He couldn't go into more specific details because "it relates to personnel matters."

Harvey did say that he plans to look outside the Department to fill Ray's spot unless a current employee meets their requirements.

Ray is expected to appear in Fremont County court on October 24.
