Plea deal reached in trial of man who killed Pueblo teen

PUEBLO, Colo. - A Pueblo man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of a 16-year-old.

Dominik Jaramillo was charged with first-degree murder in the December 2015 shooting death of Elijah Aquila.

In court Wednesday, the victim's family pleaded with the judge not to accept the deal. They wanted Jaramillo to face life in prison. Under the deal, he faces 16 to 25 years in prison. Jaramillo will be sentenced on May 12.

The shooting happened around 7 p.m. on December 14, 2015 near Veta Avenue and Van Buren Street.

Detectives said at least two large groups of people, some with gang ties, went to a park in the area to watch what was supposed to be a fistfight. The shooting happened when one of the groups arrived.
