DENVER - The FBI Denver Division says scammers are using a technique called spoofing to trick you out of your money.
In this case, the spoofers are able to make the FBI's real phone number show up on your caller ID when they call you, even though they are not actually calling from that number.
The FBI says the spoofers claim the victims are being investigated by the FBI and will be arrested if they don't pay a fee.
The FBI says it never calls or e-mails private citizens and demands money or threatens arrest.
Anyone who is contacted by a caller who says they are with the FBI is encouraged to verify the information by calling 303-629-7171.
