Shot fired at Colorado Springs gun show

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Police said a gun was accidentally fired at a gun show at the Expo Center in Colorado Springs Saturday (3/29/14).

Colorado Springs police said a vendor was setting up his guns when the back of a gun was bumped, causing it to fire. Investigators said the round shattered.

It caused no damage and no one was hurt. Police said the vendor had been testing the gun earlier this week because it had a defect.

The vendor said he removed the magazine from the gun but forgot to empty the chamber.

The vendor faces charges of prohibited use of a weapon. Police said the event organizer asked the vender to leave.

The organizer declined an interview but told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that such an incident happens occasionally, either at a show or in a home, and said he sees no reason to change safety procedures at future shows.

The gun show continues Sunday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The Expo Center is owned by the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs (UCCS). UCCS police investigated the incident with assistance from city police.
