Social media helps CSP catch street racers

SAN LUIS VALLEY, Colo. - At least nine San Luis Valley residents are facing a combined 173 charges related to street racing. 

Over the span of 10 months, authorities were able to gather evidence including videos posted on social media by the suspects proving that they were street racing down local county roads. One video posted included suspects filming their speedometer while driving up to 165 mph. 

Those facing charges include:

  • Karl Kloeppel, 32
  • Shadoe Amaya, 27
  • Matthew Jacques, 28 
  • Fabian Quezada, 21
  • Corey Lydeen,19 
  • Don Marvin Sisneros, 21
  • Derek Blackburn, 40
  • Adam Jacques. 30

The charges include Illegal Speed Contest, Illegal Speed Exhibition, Reckless Driving, and Reckless Endangerment.  

Around 557 people have lost their lives on Colorado Highways in 2016 as a result of automobile accidents, many caused by speeding, according to CSP.
