Soldier accused of sexually assaulting girls faces court martial at Fort Carson

FORT CARSON, Colo. - A Fort Carson soldier has been accused of sexually assaulting girls. 

According to documents released by Fort Carson, at least one of the alleged victims was under 12-years-old.

SGT Luis M. Melgarejo, 32, faces court-martial for three counts. One for sexual assault of a child, one for failure to follow an order and one for assault. 

While it's not clear how many alleged victims there are, a total of eight incidents are described on Melgarejo's charge sheet. The document says that at least one of his accusers is under the age of 12 and at least one other is under the age of 16. 

Melgarejo is assigned to the 299th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. He has been in the military for six years and 10 months and is originally from Azusa, California. 

Melgarejo's awards include the Army Achievement Award, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terror Service Medal and an Army Service Ribbon.

The court-martial is scheduled for February 22.
