Two people died and a third was hurt in a traffic accident in Southeast Colorado Springs Friday.
The crash happened around noon at the intersection of Marksheffel Blvd. and Bradley Rd. Police said a Ford Mustang was traveling west on Bradley Rd. As it crossed the intersection with Marksheffel Rd., the Mustang broadsided a Dodge pickup truck, which was traveling southbound on Marksheffel Rd.
The driver of the Mustang, a 50-year-old woman, and a male juvenile passanger were killed. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to Memorial Hospital to be treated for non life-threatening injuries.
Both vehicles suffered severe damage. The truck collided with the signal pole on the southwest corner, which prevented it from rolling over, police said.
A spokesperson with the City of Colorado Springs said the traffic signal at the intersection was not operating normally around the time of the accident, according to "early indications from the log of the signal controller." And that they are investigating the signal operations and any cause of the malfunction.
