COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

A Fort Carson soldier was killed while he was trying to cross the interstate in Colorado Springs early Saturday morning.

The crash happened around midnight on northbound I-25 at the S Academy Blvd exit.

The Colorado State Patrol says a 23-year-old Specialist Timothy Brett Alexander was crossing the highway when two oncoming cars hit him. He was pronounced dead on scene.

The drivers and passengers of the two cars were not hurt.

Troopers believe alcohol was involved in the crash.

Fort Carson issued this statement on Monday: "The Fort Carson community is deeply saddened by the death of Spc. Timothy Alexander, and our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends and fellow Soldiers."
