Drivers prepare for I-25 lane closures through Pueblo
Drivers who commute on I-25 through Pueblo should expect delays beginning Monday night. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on the 29th Street Bridge.
For the next month, crews will be removing and resurfacing concrete from the bridge. They will also be paving the road with asphalt. A spokesperson for the Colorado Department of Transportation said drivers should expect significant delays, especially during the day. Meanwhile, drivers are preparing to find alternate routes.
"Definitely gonna try to find a detour cause it's already pretty clogged up as it is already," said driver Raymond Flood.
"I'll probably go down, straight down Elizabeth down to the Highway 50," said Ed Garcia, who lives in Pueblo.
Beginning on Monday at 6 p.m., travelers heading north over the 29th Street Bridge will be diverted to the south side of the bridge as crews work on the north end.
"I mean I give myself enough time anyway but this is gonna be a little extra," said driver Cristinyah Keator. "I work graveyard shifts, it kind of takes out on my sleeping pattern."
All four lanes are expected to be back open by early August.
Drivers looking for alternate routes should exit at 13th Street or U.S. Highway 50 and take Elizabeth Street.
