Parents seek to oust Franklin Elementary principal

Pueblo, Colo - Parents at Pueblo's Ben Franklin Elementary accuse the school's principal of unfair treatment towards students. They also claim a child was disciplined and sent to the school's special needs room as punishment.

On Friday, angry parents went to the district in hopes of ousting that principal. About a dozen parents gathered together and gave the Pueblo School District a petition asking for a change in leadership. They say principal Sheri McGrew lacks both good communication skills and the necessary community involvement to help their kids grow.

"In previous years it's been a really good environment, a healthy learning environment," parent Iven Vigil said. "This year everything has really declined and gone downhill and there is no communication in the school. The kids are having a hard time concentrating on their studies."

We contacted Franklin Elementary hoping to get an interview with McGrew, but she did not respond. The district says it's investigating and would not comment further on a personnel matter.
