'Django Unchained' performs strong overseas

Best picture Oscar nominee "Django Unchained" is finding success overseas.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Quentin Tarantino project about a slave-turned-bounty hunter who goes on a bloody journey to rescue his enslaved wife, opened at No. 1 in at least 23 foreign markets.

The movie, which stars Jamie Foxx as the titular Django, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz and Kerry Washington, bowed in 54 markets overall and earned around $48.4 million.

With $139.3 million made domestically since "Django Unchained" opened in theaters Christmas Day, its worldwide box office haul is now $187.7 million, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.
