(CNN) -

Those pesky little yellow minions you fell for in the kiddie blockbuster "Despicable Me" are about to get their very own feature film.

Deadline reports that the tiny scene-stealers - who didn't really speak during the first cartoon hit-- will be developed into leading figures for "The Minions," courtesy of Universal Pictures. (They'll be given their own quirky language, we assume?)

The film will reportedly introduce new characters and reprise other fan favorites from 2010's "Despicable Me," but the main focus will be on the shenanigans the loveable yellow guys engage in as they interact with humans.

The script has reportedly already been written by Brian Lynch, with Pierre Coffin attached to direct with the help of Kyle Balda.

Production is apparently dependent on the "Despicable 2" shooting timetable, so that the two films come out a year apart. "The Minions" is scheduled to hit theaters in 2014, and the "Despicable" sequel, slated to arrive July 3, 2013, will bring back voice-over actor Steve Carell and will also star Kristen Wiig and Al Pacino.
