Family, Friends Of Teen Killed In Hit and Run Plead For Justice

Ricky Figueroa, 14, Killed Thursday

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Dozens gathered Friday night to remember a teen who died a hit and run and plead for help finding the driver who killed him.

Ricky Figueroa, 14, was crossing Circle Drive near Airport Road when witnesses said he stumbled and was crushed by a pickup truck at about 8 p.m. Thursday. The man driving the truck kept going.

"He always loved me, no matter what. He always protected me when I was little," said Ricky's younger sister Diana Gonzalez through her tears. "Everybody in this whole entire family was crying to death. I was really worried about my mother."

Ricky's family was joined by his friends and classmates 24 hours after the deadly accident. They gathered on the sidewalk, lighting candles and crying, several feet away from where Ricky was hit.

"It's not going to be the same walking on earth without him," said friend Jade Archuleta.

"We lost someone that was very important in our life," said Rosie Cordova, another friend. "And it's really going to hurt for a long time."

Ricky's classmates said they want the man who hit their friend to see their pain.

"I hope that person learns they're hurting a lot of people right now," said Brittany Dykes, who said Ricky was like her brother.

No one could understand how someone could just drive away.

"It's not right," said Isabel Gutierrez, sobbing. "What sick person does that? Leaves a kid to die?"

"I hope the person that did that comes forward," said Takeya Gilliard. "If he did, I bet God would forgive him for giving himself up instead of trying to run away."

Police said the man was driving a 1985-1987 Chevrolet pickup truck or a 1987-1991 GMC pickup truck. The vehicle is described as a full-sized pickup with a "lift kit" and damage to the left front portion of the vehicle near the left front, single, high-low headlight system. Witnesses said the pickup truck was grey or light colored.

A witness told KRDO Newschannel 13 the man driving was white with short hair or a shaved head.
