FEMA Colorado Task Force 1 being relocated to help with Irma

FEMA Colorado Task Force 1 being...

FEMA’s Colorado Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue team will not be returning to Colorado quite yet.  Last night the Colorado Springs Fire Department received word from that they were being upgraded to a Type 1 team and are being sent to a staging location in Georgia after previously being sent to a location in Florida, in preparation for Hurricane Irma. A Type 1 team consists of 80 members trained in a variety of specialties, to include: search & rescue, hazardous materials, medical, and logistics.

According to Captain Steve Wilch, Colorado Springs firefighters are in good health and their spirits are high. The Colorado Task Force has experienced a warm outpouring of support.  The convoy is impressive, consisting of semi-tractor trailers packed with equipment and supplies, pickup trucks towing rescue boats, and cargo vans carrying firefighters. The 13 vehicle convoy stopped in Russellville, Arkansas last night for some much needed rest and recuperation.
