Fremont County Sheriff's Office gets eight new deputies

New Fremont County Deputies

CANON CITY - The Fremont County Sheriff's Office has experienced some tumultuous times as of recent, but deputies say they're looking forward.

Especially now. As of this week, eight new officers will join the office.

Two of those deputies began day shifts on Wednesday, and they couldn't be more excited.

"(I'm looking forward to) working with the community, being part of the community, just making my way in this little town and getting to know people," said Deputy Samantha Hughes. Hughes is a former Department of Corrections employee.

"It's definitely different than what I've done before — but it's an exciting new career," explained Deputy Andre Shepherd. Shepherd served in the military prior to applying at the sheriff's office.

Veteran officers also chimed in as the new deputies worked through their first day.

"I love the people I work with, I love my job —  I chose this job for a reason and I wouldn't want to do anything less," said Sgt. Justin Green, who's been with the department for 10 years.

Deputy Clint Wilson added, "It's absolutely amazing. That's the best way to describe it."

If you're interested in applying, contact the office at (719) 276-5555.
