Body found on Santa Fe Trail at Air Force Academy ruled suicide

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - A portion of the Santa Fe Trail is closed on Air Force Academy property after a jogger found a body Wednesday morning.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday afternoon that the death is being ruled as a suicide. The person's identity is expected to be released Thursday.

It was discovered between the Tri-Intersection Bridge at Pine Drive and Stadium Boulevard around 7 a.m.

The trail is closed from that intersection to where the trail ends at the North Gate, and there is no word on when it will reopen.

There is no information yet on whether the body is that of a man or woman. The Air Force Academy confirmed it is not a cadet, based on several indicators.

The 10th Security Forces Squadron and deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office are on the scene.
