EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. - A 10-year-old girl was arrested at a school in Falcon D-49 Tuesday after deputies said she brought medical marijuana to class.
An El Paso County Sheriff's Office spokesperson confirmed to KRDO NewsChannel 13 that the incident happened at Evans Elementary.
The girl was handcuffed and arrested before being released to her parents. She is facing marijuana-related charges.
The girl's father told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that his daughter stole the medical marijuana from his locked room.
He said he has been open with his children about medical marijuana and his daughter knew that she should never touch it and that it is prescribed medicine for patients.
The father said he has a prescription because of chronic pain, restless leg syndrome and ADHD.
A Falcon D-49 spokesperson said the district has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to marijuana, medical or not.
The girl's father said she has been expelled from D-49 schools. She also has a court date in December.
The girl said a friend at school told her to do it.
She told her dad that she understands what she did was wrong and she said she plans to try to make things right.
