LITTLETON, Colo. - Colorado State Patrol says two contract employees were killed after being hit by a Subaru in a construction area on C-470 at Broadway on Tuesday afternoon.
A blue 2007 Subaru Tribeca was headed westbound on C-470, exiting onto Broadway, when the driver lost control, State Patrol said.
The Subaru went onto the grass on the left side of the road, hit the workers and then a white 2007 Honda Pilot.
The two contract workers died at the scene. They have been identified as 47-year-old Joseph Schwartz of Morrison and 27-year-old Jesus Villalobos of Brighton. CDOT spokeswoman Stacey Stegman said the contractor working on the Douglas County project in the area was Concrete Works of Colorado. She didn't know if Schwartz and Villalobos were in fact employees of that contractor.
The driver of the Subaru, identified as 74-year-old Thomas Garrity of Bellevue, Nebraska, and a 72-year-old female passenger. Both suffered moderate injuries according to State Patrol.
The driver of the Honda was not injured in the crash.
