2 suspects in custody after car chase, standoff

PUEBLO, Colo. - Two suspects are arrested after a car chase that led to a standoff in Pueblo Sunday morning.

Police responded to reports of shots fired in the 1100 block of Egan Ave., on Pueblo's south side, shortly before 1:00 a.m. Sunday. They came across a car matching the description witnesses had given. The driver refused to stop, prompting a car chase through town. The chase ended on the east side of Pueblo, near the 1800 block of E. 6th St. The two suspects got out of the car and ran.

Police chased the suspects to a nearby home. The suspects broke into the home and a standoff started while the suspects barricaded themselves in one of the rooms.

The homeowner was home at the time of the break-in. Police were able to get the homeowner out safely.

The SWAT team was called in after failed attempts to negotiate the suspects' surrender. Gas had to be deployed after more failed negotiation attempts. The SWAT team was then able to get the two suspects out of the home, without injuries.

Nicholas Montoya, 23, had a warrant out for his arrest. He was booked into county jail for Eluding, Reckless Driving and Burglary. He also faces charges for violating a restraining order against the other suspect.

The other suspect, Shannace Lowe, 21, was booked into county jail for burglary.
