2013 city budget & strategic vision plan

Mayor Bach's hope for the new year

2013 city budget & strategic vision plan

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo - Mayor Steve Bach unveils his strategic vision and 2013 budget plan proposal.   It includes bringing the police and fire departments to full strength in the new year, turning on 3500 street lights and adding evening bus service.  The increases in service are all done under a balanced budget.

As per his memorandum, " 2013 General fund expenditures increase by 11 million dollars versus this year but are partially offset by 3.3 million in internal expense reductions. "  That's budget talk for outsourcing certain city services which include street paving and 36 city positions were eliminated.

Mayor Steve Bach said in his Monday morning briefing, "We need to rethink everything that we are doing and if something works the way we are doing it, stick with it.   We also have to ask ourselves about what we are doing and if we can do it better."

The mayor's strategic vision is really a business oriented model that pushes customer service focusing on you the citizen as a consumer.  You want more for your money and new ways to do things more efficiently.

The Colorado Springs City Council will get an in depth briefing of the 2013 budget on October 11th and 12th.  I've put a link to the city budget, so you can see how city government is spending your money.   It's on the front page, links we mentioned.
