COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Wildlife officers are searching for an aggressive bear in the area around Bear Creek Regional Park on the western edge of Colorado Springs.
Several people have reported encounters with the bear while using trails on the west side of the park. The bear was later reportedly seen near the creek in the Bear Creek Dog Park.
Officers were told that the bear did not retreat after being yelled at and continued to approach within ten feet of at least one jogger.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers are looking for the bear. Trails west of 21st Street in the park may close while they search for the bear.
If located, the bear's behavior will be assessed to determine if it can be intimidated into leaving or relocated.
If the bear has lost its fear of people and is determined to be a risk to human health and safety, it will be put down.
