COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says a band coach at Air Academy High School had an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old student and warns there could be more victims.
David Hurd, 38, was arrested in Aurora on April 11, 2014.
The investigation into Hurd began in February when a School Resource Officer at Air Academy received a tip.
Interviews and forensic examination of various types of digital media led investigators to believe that Hurd was having a romantic relationship with an unidentified 16-year-old Air Academy student.
Academy District 20 fired Hurd when it learned of the accusations in February.
"Everyone is disappointed. We try to keep everyone safe (at school)," District 20's Nanette Anderson said.
She said District 20 conducted a background check in 2004, and it had not received any complaints about Hurd before February.
Hurd was booked into the Aurora City Jail on $50,000 bond and a search warrant was executed at his house.
He paid the $50,000 bond last Saturday.
David Hurd is facing felony charges for sexual exploitation of a child and obscenity.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says Hurd was involved with multiple marching band activities throughout the country as a consultant and choreographer and has been for many years. As a result, investigators worry there could be more victims in this case.
"There is obvious concerns that there could be more victims nationwide," El Paso County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Gregory White said.
