Air Force Academy identifies cadet who died

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force Academy has identified a cadet who died on Friday.

Cadet 1st Class Matthew Patrick, 22, was found unconscious on Friday and was transported to Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs.  Patrick was pronounced dead at the hospital later that morning.

Patrick was a Dallas native and in his senior year at the Academy as an aeronautical engineering major.

The cause of death is still under investigation and no other details have been released by the Academy.

The Commandant of Cadets informed the Cadet Wing of the death Friday during lunch.

"The Academy family is deeply saddened by the death of one of our own. Our heart-felt condolences go out to the family and friends of our cadet," said Lt. Gen. Mike Gould, Superintendent of the Air Force Academy. "Our Air Force family is grieving this loss, and we are committed to helping the family through this extremely difficult time."
