Alleged robber dragged by victim's SUV, arrested

MONTE VISTA, Colo. - A woman accused of trying to rob someone in a Safeway parking lot on Monday was arrested by Monte Vista Police.

Police say that 27-year-old Ashley Trujillo of Monte Vista approached a woman who was just entering her vehicle in the parking lot of the Safeway in the 1200 block of 2nd Avenue around 9:20 p.m.

Trujillo asked to use the woman's cell phone.  When the victim reached for her phone, Trujillo allegedly struck the victim in the face with a glass drinking container and tried to grab her purse, police said.

The victim reportedly panicked and accelerated her vehicle, dragging Trujillo several feet around the parking lot.  Witnesses report that Trujillo then left in a red SUV and provided a partial license plate number for the vehicle.

Trujillo was stopped moments later by a Rio Grande County Deputy Sheriff and was taken into custody without incident.  Both Trujillo and the victim were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Trujillo was booked into the Rio Grande County Jail on charges of Aggravated Robbery and Second Degree Assault.
