Amber Alert: Child Found, Suspect In Custody

Father attacked mother, took son and fled, police say

Amber Alert issued for Colorado boy following attack

LONGMONT, Colo. - UPDATE: An Amber Alert is cancelled after the child is found safe, father arrested accused of assaulting his estranged wife and kidnapping their 3-year-old son.

Longmont police said 51-year-old Monty Ray Turner assaulted his wife at her Longmont, Colo., home Saturday and left with their son, Luke Turner.

The father was arrested at a motel in Brandon, Manitoba in Canada at about 1:30 p.m.

Longmont Police said, early Sunday morning the Missouri State Patrol found the white Chrysler that they believed Monty and Luke Turner were traveling in, in Venon County, Missouri. Monty and Luke have not yet been found. Monty's father, Ronald Turner was arrested as an accessory.

An Amber Alert has been issued after Monty Ray Turner, 51, was accused of breaking into his estranged wife's Longmont home Saturday morning, assaulting her with pepper spray and an electronic stun gun, then kidnapping their 3-year-old son, Luke.

"(Luke) was eating breakfast and got out of his chair," said Luke's mother, Sandy Turner.  "He was yelling at (his father) to please not hurt Mommy."

Turner fled on a bicycle with the toddler in a child seat, Longmont Police Cmdr. Jeff Satur said.  The home is in the 700 block of Eldora Place.

Police believed Turner parked a vehicle nearby and fled in the vehicle, Satur said.  Authorities said they found Turner's blue Ford pickup Saturday evening in nearby Weld County, but he and the child weren't there.

Turner was wanted for failure to comply, police said, because he abducted Luke last July.  Sandy Turner said in that incident, Luke spent nine months with her husband's relatives in Missouri.  That incident led a judge to issue a protection order for Turner to stay away from his wife and son.

Turner faces charges of assault, burglary and kidnapping.  Sandy Turner said she believes her husband's family is involved again.

"I'm sure (her husband) had help," she said.  "If he had just shown up for the divorce settlement, he would have has some custody rights -- but he didn't come.  I'm glad that domestic kidnapping is a crime now.  It wasn't when he took Luke the first time."

Sandy Turner said Monty Turner loves Luke and hopes the father won't hurt his son.  He was a good husband, she said, until recently.

"He did change about two years into our marriage," she said.  "He withdrew from me.  Luke was the only person in the house that he really had anything to do with.  Luke's probably scared to death.  So much has happened.  He's been yanked back and forth so much."

Monty Turner is a white man who is 6-feet-2-inches tall, weighs 210 pounds and has short brown hair and blue eyes.  He was last seen wearing a long-sleeve dark blue shirt and blue jeans.

Luke Turner is a white boy who is 3-feet tall, weighs 28 pounds and has blond hair and blue eyes.  He was last seen wearing a royal blue "Lightning McQueen" shirt and light blue swim shorts.

If you see Monty Turner or Luke Turner or know their whereabouts, call Longmont Police at 303-651-8501.
