Arson fire destroys school playground equipment

ERIE, Colo. -  Authorities say an arson fire destroyed $50,000 worth of playground equipment at an elementary school in Erie.

Police say the fire was reported at about 5 a.m. Wednesday at Black Rock Elementary School in Erie, about 25 miles north of downtown Denver.

The Boulder Daily Camera reports (http://tinyurl.com/kegskjt ) investigators determined the fire was deliberately set but haven't revealed any other information.

The fire was extinguished before it could damage the school. There were no reports of injuries.

No arrests have been made. Police say some callers provided descriptions of possible suspects, but they were so general that they weren't expected to be of much help.

The St. Vrain Valley School District says replacement equipment has been ordered and should be in place before school starts.
