Betty Russell serving up smiles

17 years and going strong to help AFA cadets

Wear Red Friday Hero: Betty Russell

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo - Our Wear Red Friday Hero is almost hidden in a sea of faces inside Mitchell Hall at the Air Force Academy.  Betty Russell helps serve chow to the 4400 cadets, daily at the Academy.

Betty has been doing this for 17 years.  She's helped put smiles on the faces of some 30,000 cadets by serving and interacting with them, "It makes me feel good because I feel I'm serving them, I'm serving my country and our future leaders."

Cadet Bryan Anderson is one of the thousands Betty has helped over the years, "She's always smiling, super polite and always says thanks to us which is something we should do for her.  She does so much for us.  She's always so wonderful."

It's day in day out for her to do her thing with a mini-army of other servers at the Air Force Academy.   Betty watches their progress very closely, "I seem them come in from the very beginning and see them develop into prosperous young men and women."

Betty Russell's contagious smile and can do attitude at the Air Force Academy is why she is our Wear Red Friday Hero.

You can nominate your own Wear Red Friday Hero.  It doesn't have to be someone in the military, it can be someone who supports the military like Betty or a military spouse who does something special for the Southern Colorado community.  You can nominate someone in our Wear Red Friday Heroes section on KRDO.com
