Body found Wednesday in Widefield identified

Case being investigated as homicide

Widefield Homicide Concerns Neighbors

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. - The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has identified Miguel Barajas, 47, as the man found dead Wednesday night in a house on Judson Street in Widefield.

In a release issued Friday, the sheriff's office said Barajas is the father of Dawn Richburg, a resident of the home.  Richburg came home to find her door open and called deputies, fearing a possible burglary.  Sheriff's office spokesman Lt. Jeff Kramer later confirmed Barajas lived at the home with his wife and Richburg.

Kramer said some items are missing from the home, but declined to elaborate.  He also declined to discuss a neighbor's claim that guns were taken from the home, and that gang signs were spray-painted inside.  No further specific details were available Friday.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 tried to speak with the family of Barajas, but family members declined to comment.

Steve Walker, a neighbor, said he's worried about the lack of information in the case.

"Do we need to be taking some extra precautions above and beyond what we normally would at home, as far as protecting our property?" he asked.  "It just seems like if we knew more, we'd be better off maybe."

The sheriff's office is asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the 100 block of Judson on Wednesday to contact them at 719-390-5555.

We'll continue to track this story here, and on KRDO NewsChannel 13.
