Child pimp gets 7 years in prison

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A 21-year-old man was sentenced to seven years in prison and must register as a sex offender after he plead guilty to pimping a 16-year-old girl.

Trevor Baker sobbed in court when the judge announced the sentence. He faced between one and 12 years behind bars.

Baker admitted to pimping a 16-year-old friend in a scheme to make money, but said she told him she was 18. He said he pimped the girl to three different men, and he and the girl split the $450 they made. The girl's mother found out and contacted the FBI, and eventually CSPD caught Baker and the girl at a motel in May 2012.

"I understand I made a mistake, but she made a mistake too," Baker said at the sentencing hearing Friday.

He apologized, but also said he'd been unfairly treated.

"I just want everybody to know I'll never do it again, and I'm ready to become a man," Baker said.

The victim's mother also spoke before the judge and said Baker knew her daughter was 16 and asked her to recruit more girls from school.

"My daughter has had tremendous nightmares due to the things she was subjected to in Trevor Baker's escort service," the mother said.

The prosecution read a letter from the teen where she described her low self-esteem and how Baker told her about the "glamorous world of escorting" where other girls he worked with made enough money in a few weeks to buy a car.

"I could have been raped or killed by any of these men," she wrote, later saying: "I don't think (Trevor's) learned any lesson in this yet."

Judge Barney Iuppa said the case "rises to the level of a Shakespearean tragedy" and is sad for all involved. He said he wanted to consider probation for sentencing, but said that Baker had been "flipping off the system" since his arrest; violating the restraining order for the victim and missing or coming late to court-ordered appearances.

The victim's mother said she was satisfied with the sentence and Baker got more time in prison that she had expected.
