Police Make Car Theft Bust

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado Springs police made a car theft bust on Wednesday afternoon in the 3700 block of Venice Grove.

Officers said they recovered two stolen trucks, a stolen Harley-Davidson motorcycle and two stolen sport bikes.

According to police, Marvin Hostetler, 41, has been arrested.

He admitted to police that he knew the vehicles were stolen and he was in the process of taking the stolen motorcycle apart when police arrested him.

Officers said they got a tip about the stolen vehicles from a suspect in an unrelated crime on Tuesday morning.

According to police, a group of detectives have been focusing on motor vehicle thefts because there has been a spike in those crimes this summer.

Police said a stolen truck was parked in the driveway of a home in the 3700 block Venice Grove. They obtained a search warrant and entered the home with the help of SWAT team members.

According to police, officers also found fake checks and photo IDs in the home that may have been used for identity theft.

This investigation is ongoing and may result in further arrests.

Officers ask drivers to always keep track of car keys and close garage doors. They said car thefts are most often crimes of opportunity.
